Here's something that pisses me off. Don't make dumb comments like "Your character looks like...soandso from whatever movie". Or "reminds of whatever mainstream thing I can possibly compare this too that already exists."

Nothing makes an artist feel more like shit than getting oodles of retarded comments that consist mostly of comparisons to anything this else the viewer might happen to think of at the time. I don't appreciate these comments.

I am going to redesign Camin. Yes, the character that I have had since I was 13 years old, and lemme tell you...that was a very long time ago.

Know why? Cause I'm sick and tired of people with only two brain cells to rub together thinking she is Lara Croft because she has a somewhat greenish tank top. I even get the Krystal from starfox thing all the time too which is retarded because, in relation to how old I am, that game and character are a recent creation.

So piss off with your dumb comments, or I'm blocking you.

I think part of it is the fact that they want something to say, but just really don't know WHAT to say other than the blatantly obvious (I'm guilty of that lol ^^; ) My beef is the people who tell me what I SHOULD be drawing - or drawing more of, like I have nothing better to do with my time than cater to the masses of people here who have no life (not all of them..but they know who they are ;) )

You shouldn't be so upset when someone says that a original character looks like something or someone that they remember. Over a course of a single person life they exposed to an unmeasurable amount of media, whether it be comics, movies, music, games, television, word of mouth, what have you. Everything from death metal music to Shakespeare follow tropes. Tropes are literacy elements that are used when one creates something unique whether be a song or a character or even a symbol of one's imagination.

When exposed to thousands, perhaps MILLIONS, of these via media people will naturally look at something they have not seen before and compared it to something that they have. Some of my favorite songs are from my favorite movies, video games because the song reminds me of them. So don't be mad, they're not trying to insult you or anything. They're just being human. Even if you redesign your character, if you get someone new who watches your gallery. They might make the same comment.

If it helps, I don't know how people connect Camin to Lara Croft. Lara isn't a talking fox as far as I know. =)

These days, people like myself really
cant tell whether they feel like someones acussing them of ripping off another character or just sending a nice comment of comparisant.
(not sure if i spelled that one right). It does seem to get on my nerves too, but I dont let it bother me. Besides, when you look at the likes of the manga and anime media, characters look alike, with the likes of coloured hair, eyes or choice of clothing. One thing that helps me tell some apart is by their personality.

Exactly, sometimes characters look like other characters but they are still different enough that people can still tell them apart be it personality, colors, clothing, etc. =)

Woahzers, didn't notice she was a creation you'd had for 13 years of your art life :D, looks like i learn something new everyday on here :o  ;-)

+what's more is, i do think that's absolute crap when peeps keep comparing your fursona Camin to being modelled upon Lara Croft or Ms Krystal since she looks absolutely NOTHING like them 2 whatsoever in either appearance, clothes or definitive characteristic mannerisms :unimpressed:  one presumes you need no worry yourself too hard about those who slander you so piss-poorly for such mis-conceptualism :-)

[PS i have an uncle who used to work for the company that made the Tomb Raider series yar ago, doesn't appear to me that the enlargement of such particular items of the female bodymass [ie enormously oversized combat jugs ;p] didn't do them anything shy whatsoever of ridicule towards public image of the 1st woman combatulant antagonist of an adventure game like all those many cynics presumed :D :police:]

Your term "combat jugs" made me laugh alot. Actually, I created Camin when I was 13 years old. I am nearly 33 now so I have had Camin for almost 20 years actually!

Oops, that complaint applies to me, too...

Well, I'm so sorry; now I realize how boring such comparisions may be. I promise I'll never do that again.
But look: the fact that an artwork reminds something else doesn't mean the artwork is not original. So, please, don't change your character just because of us.

Anyway, now I like you even more.

I don't remember you doing that ever, not on any of my deviations anyway. No worries, sometimes change is good actually. I have been thinking about this for a while now and I think I have some pretty good design ideas actually. ;)

Hmm, odd. Luckily I have never had the problem, or at least can’t recall anyone doing this to my art. I can see what your annoyed about though, the fact you take time and effort to create an original character, and design an outfit and look for a character, that may have been totally original or perhaps inspired by something, but its yours. Not a cheap nock off and copy that other uninspired artists may resort to.
Sure, at first most art is first all from inspiration, I’ll admit allot of my starting art was like this, reworks and changes of characters, but never exact duplicates.

I wouldn’t say to change your character, its yours, no body else’s. Maybe add the cape I gave her, and see if it helps. =p
